A Message from Executive Director, Susan J. Kibbe

Dear Members,

It has been a busy month in many ways, but first things first. Our first clay shoot competition on April 15 at the El Dorado Sporting Clays near Linn-San Manuel is fast approaching. We have over $11,000 in team or station sponsorships so far, but I’d like to at least triple that. I want to challenge each and everyone of our members to purchase at least one station sponsorship ($250) or one shooting team ($500).

Costs for everything has gone up, but we are all digging a little deeper to ensure the success of our missions this year: ongoing educational push on issues that affect property rights; and getting needed legislation passed that protects our rights as property owners.

Thank you in advance for your consideration for contributing to the clay shoot competition. If you don’t shoot, come join us for a good social time with some piped in music!

I was invited to participate in a U.S. Senatorial roundtable on the Rio Grande River, near Mission, last Friday with six U.S. Senators, including our own John Cornyn. The purpose of the meeting was to educate a couple of newly elected Senators to realities that landowners and law enforcement face with an unsecured border in South Texas. The new border advisor to Governor Abbott, Mike Banks, was in attendance and gave the attending Senators an uninhibited description of what is currently occurring and how the challenge could be met if law enforcement was able to do its job.

Mike Banks is a confirmed speaker for our October Annual Meeting and Fundraiser in McAllen on October 12.

STPRA was asked to provide testimony yesterday during the Texas House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, chaired by Rep. Ryan Guillen. Our advocacy director Charles Maley spoke of the importance of our constitutional freedoms as property owners and then introduced member J.R. Ramirez, the general manager of the Chaparrosa Ranch near La Pryor. Read JR’s testimony here.
